10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About Paul Heyman

8. Chris Benoit And John Cena Made Him Eat Soap

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PG_tixxsAvk Heyman was on and off WWE TV so many times starting in 2001 that it's hard to keep track of everything. In late 2003, he was hired as the GM of Smackdown (replacing Stephanie McMahon) and of course he was a heel. At that point Chris Benoit was clearly getting pushed to the top, so Heyman did all he could to make life difficult for him. John Cena was also a babyface star on the rise, so Heyman made enemies out of them. On the January 15, 2004 edition of Smackdown, Cena beat Rhyno in a "Wash Your Mouth Out With Soap" match. The reason is that Heyman didn't like Cena's raps, so if Cena lost he would get his mouth washed with soap and if Rhyno lost that meant that Heyman would eat the soap.
The "wash your mouth out with soap" is an old school thing where parents would make their kids do that if they said a swear word or something like that. You might remember a scene in A Christmas Story where Ralphie has to do it after his dad hear him swear. Heyman tried to escape the mouth washing, but Benoit brought him back out and put him in a Sharpshooter. Heyman begged for forgiveness. Cena grabbed the soap and made Heyman eat it. It was an entertaining segment that Heyman sold perfectly, but it will never see the light of day again because of Benoit's involvement.
