10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About Randy Orton

1. His First World Title Win Was Against Chris Benoit

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uwKlgAtF44k Whenever WWE talks about Orton's history they are quick to mention that he's the youngest World Champion ever. They're smart to point that out because it's a great accomplishment that only he can proclaim. What they don't mention is who he beat. In this case, it's not Orton's fault. At SummerSlam 2004, Orton faced off with then World Champion Chris Benoit. Orton was a young heel on the rise that was part of the Evolution stable. The leader of Evolution was Triple H and he wasn't able to beat Benoit, so the story was that if Orton did beat him there would be an issue with Triple H. In other words, they were setting up a babyface turn for Orton. Remember how much WWE kept pushing the idea that it was his destiny? Apparently it was. The match was a very competitive battle that Orton was able to fight out of the Crossface and win clean with a RKO. The fans in Toronto gave him a nice ovation as he celebrated with the World Title for the first time. The next night, Orton turned babyface after Evolution turned on him because Hunter was jealous. Why does WWE want you to forget about this? Because they don't like to mention Chris Benoit due to the double murder homicide he committed in 2007. If you have WWE Network and pull up this pay-per-view you can watch it, but it's not like WWE is ever going to show highlights of it on TV or mention Benoit's name. It's a shame that the first of Orton's 12 WWE/World Title reigns can't be celebrated the way it should be, but at least in this case it's not his fault. Who do you want to see featured next week in the "things WWE wants you to forget" series? We've already looked at Undertaker, Kane, Vince McMahon, Triple H, Hulk Hogan and John Cena in the past.
