10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About Rob Van Dam
6. He Was Supposed To Be A Heel During The Invasion
It was July 9, 2001 when Rob Van Dam made his WWE debut as a full time performer. He was brought in after ECW died. He debuted with Tommy Dreamer by attacking WWE superstars Kane and Chris Jericho. The other former ECW guys from WCW as well as WCW went in the ring and they worked together to destroy the WWE guys. He ended up as a part of the WCW/ECW Alliance that was there to end WWE. They were booked like heels obviously because they were there to try to kill WWE. The problem was that RVD was cheered big time as the most popular ECW wrestler and somebody that was very unique to what we were used to seeing in WWE. When they did the big blowoff ten man tag match at Survivor Series 2001 with Team WWE against Team Alliance he was on the Alliance side full of heels, yet he was cheered by the fans and booked like a face at the No Mercy 2001 PPV prior to it. It's not like he got in trouble for being cheered. It was just the wrong reaction that WWE was looking for. RVD has worked as a babyface for the majority of his career. It's the role that is best for him although during the Alliance angle it was really confusing for the viewers at home.
