10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About The Rock

4. WrestleMania 28 Was Advertised As "Once In A Lifetime" Even Though He Was Scheduled Against John Cena At WrestleMania 29

The WrestleMania 28 main event match between The Rock and John Cena in Rock's hometown of Miami was arguably the most promoted match in WWE history. It was announced on the Raw after WrestleMania 27, which was one full year before the match would take place. For the next year all we heard about was Rock vs. Cena at WrestleMania 28. There was a marketing slogan that WWE used heavily too: "Once in a Lifetime." The idea was that this would be the one and only time this match would take place, so if you wanted to see it you better watch WrestleMania 28. They shoved that tagline in our faces week after week until we finally got to WrestleMania 28. What we didn't know after Rock beat Cena clean in the main event of WM28 was that they planned on having another match a year later. The Rock revealed it after his WrestleMania 29 WWE Title loss to Cena. They set it up by having Rock beat CM Punk for the WWE Title while Cena won the Royal Rumble. Rock said he was signed to be the host of WrestleMania 27, then he would beat Cena at WM28 and lose to him at WM29. It was always a three year plan. That's right, WWE fans. World Wrestling Entertainment lied to you. And they'll do it again too.
