10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About The Rock

3. He Wore A Shirt While Wrestling In 1999 Due To Surgery

There's a technical explanation for why The Rock wrestled in a shirt for a few months in early 1999, but the easiest way to say is that he had man boobs. He had something called gynecomastia (or gyno for short) that is the "condition characterized by the benign enlargement of breast tissue in males." He had the condition likely because of using testosterone boosting supplements, which is a cause of it. In other words, he was using steroids or some kind of human growth hormone and it was evident on his body. It doesn't happen to everybody, but apparently it's more common in Samoans and as we know The Rock is half Samoan. The story goes that The Rock had a surgery done in late 1998 to reduce this problem and he had to wrestle in a shirt for a couple of months to keep it from the public. By the time we got to March of 1999 he was back to wrestling shirtless and obviously didn't have any problems with it the rest of his career. There have been many boob jobs in the history of wrestling. The Rock is a rare case of a guy having one too. Sort of. It's just that WWE wants us to forget about it.
