10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About SummerSlam
6. Cena Insisted On Booking At SummerSlam 2010 So He Can Beat The Nexus
This was a story that Chris Jericho talked about on his podcast in late 2013 with Edge as his guest. They were a part of Team WWE in the main event of SummerSlam 2010 in a 7 on 7 match with seven WWE guys taking on Team Nexus. They spoke about how they wanted to do the finish of the match, but how Cena ended up getting his way. Chris Jericho: "It was Team WWE vs. Team Nexus, and the finish was Cena against a couple of them. John wanted to do things a certain way and we told him 'you're wrong'. He did it anyways, and it sucked. And then after he came over to us and said 'I should have listened to you, but I wasn't seeing it that way.'" Edge: "I remember. I was like, fine I'm out of the match by that point." Chris Jericho: "He wanted to get DDT'd on the floor by Barrett, then kick out and beat them both. And you and I were like, that's the dumbest thing. That's just throwing it away for no reason." Edge: "They should have gone over because they were so hot." Chris Jericho: "We were fighting for Barrett to go over. And where's Wade Barrett now?" They did the DDT on the floor, but Cena didn't sell it for very long. They did the finish about two minutes later. Cena quickly pinned Justin Gabriel (after a missed 450 splash by Gabriel) and then made Wade Barrett tap out. What we don't know is if Cena got the finish changed. Maybe Vince McMahon wanted Nexus to go over, but Cena refused. Whether he did or he didn't, we do know (thank to Jericho and Edge) that the finish definitely got changed. It's a bit of a strike against Cena's squeaky clean image. There are probably other instances where he suggested things get done his way, but you don't hear about that too often.
