10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About SummerSlam

3. Shawn Michaels Only Returned In 2002 After Kevin Nash Tore His Quad

The SummerSlam 2002 match between Shawn Michaels and Triple H is a match that WWE fans love because it was the return of Michaels after being out of action for over four years. However, it wasn't the planned match. They were actually building towards a SummerSlam match between Kevin Nash and Triple H. At the time, Hunter was a babyface that was ready to turn heel while Nash was doing his thing with the NWO. Then in early July 2002, Nash tore his quad during a tag match and he was out of action for the rest of the year. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tfxuAI7SAMk Since Hunter needed an opponent, they convinced Michaels to make his return at the event. If Nash didn't get hurt, Michaels may never have returned to the ring. He probably would have because in his book he mentioned a desire to have a match with Vince McMahon where they would use a lot of weapons, but it was not a sure thing. By the way, if you want to upset Kevin Nash on Twitter, just make a quad joke. It can get pretty nasty. Maybe we should be thanking him for opening the door for Shawn because little did we know at the time that it would lead to eight more years of seeing Michaels in the ring.
