10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About Survivor Series

2. They Nearly Replaced The Event In 2010

Survivor Series nearly ended in 2010. Even though it's the second oldest PPV event in WWE history, they nearly stopped doing it that year. Here's a quote from Vince McMahon from a February 2010 conference call talking about Survivor Series. "We think that Survivor Series is obsolete, as far as that title is concerned. It was something that worked many, many years ago, in terms of a creative standpoint, various teams competing. That really is not advantageous as the consumer now looks as what actually they are buying. Survivor Series yes, many years ago, was one of the original four pay-per-views, but it's outlasted its usage and it is one of the things in terms of re-branding, this year and going forward, that will be re-branded. No longer will we have that title, Survivor Series." This isn't one of those rumors that we heard from a "source" or anything like that. This was Vince McMahon saying it. Within a couple of months, WWE changed their minds and stuck with the event. That year's show was held in Miami with Randy Orton taking on Wade Barrett in the main event, which led to John Cena getting fired in a ridiculously stupid storyline. In looking at that show, the attendance in Miami was only 8,000 people. Not good. They should probably double that in that arena. It's four years later and the Survivor Series name is still around. Most likely what happened is WWE realized that getting rid of the name would be a bad move, so they kept it and hopefully the name never leaves because it's a part of WWE history.
