10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About Survivor Series

10. Sid Replaced Vader To Win WWE Title From Shawn Michaels In 1996

At the 1996 Survivor Series event, Shawn Michaels lost the WWE Title to Sycho Sid. It was the first time Sid had ever been WWE Champion. The match was memorable because it was a rare Sid match that was actually good (thanks to Shawn) and the fans also cheered Sid loudly because they were bored of Shawn as the babyface champion for eight months. That's what happened, but that wasn't the original plan. Vader was brought into WWE in 1996 to be a heel monster. They had Michaels there as the top babyface, so Vader was brought in to oppose him. They had a big match at SummerSlam that Vader was going to win. Michaels got it changed and they had a messed up finish although it was a good match. From that point on, Vader was out of the WWE Title picture. Apparently Shawn didn't like working with him and that led to all kinds of issues with Vader's push being stopped because Shawn complained about how hard Vader was hitting him in the ring. The plan was for Vader to win the WWE Title at Survivor Series, then drop it back to Shawn at Royal Rumble 1997. Since Shawn complained so much, it got changed to Sid instead.
It really didn't matter what heel Shawn dropped it to because they only did it so that Shawn could win the WWE Title back in his hometown of San Antonio anyway. It's just a shame that Vader didn't become a bigger star in WWE because he was a very good performer that never got a chance to show it in WWE.
