10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About The Undertaker
4. Everything That Happened With Muhammad Hassan
When Undertaker wrestled Muhammad Hassan at the 2005 Great American Bash PPV it was the end of a very controversial angle. Why was it so controversial? Because Hassan portrayed an Arab American that pissed off a lot of American fans. With tensions high among Americans and Arabs due to wars in Iraq & Afghanistan, the Hassan character added fuel to the fire. He was not a terrorist, but fans assumed that he was, so that's why there was a lot of negative attention towards him. Prior to the Great American Bash match, there was an angle on Smackdown that drew a lot of negative attention for WWE. There were five masked men, dressed in black shirts, ski-masks, and camouflage pants that had clubs and piano wire with them. They beat up Undertaker, choked him out and Hassan put him in the Camel Clutch. Their match at Great American Bash 2005 was the end of the Hassan character. It was dominant win for Undertaker as he destroyed Hassan's allies as well as Hassan in impressive fashion. The man that portrayed Hassan (Mark Copani) didn't wrestle much longer after this match. He went on to retire from the business. In terms of being an in-ring performer, he was average at best. However, the character he portrayed is one of the most memorable in WWE history simply because of what he said while he was out there. It's fitting that The Undertaker was the one to bury the character, almost literally, after that devastating Last Ride powerbomb through the stage. You don't hear WWE mention Hassan's name much these days. It's as if it never happened.
