10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About 2023

4. Gable Steveson Being Rubbish

As mentioned, the Creed Brothers are proof of concept for the NIL programme. They are absolute studs, monster hybrid athletes, and they radiate an intense meathead charm.

Hurrah!

WWE has finally worked out a way of building their own talent in-house through the scouting and recruitment of unreal collegiate specimens.

The thing is, Gable Steveson's pitiful debut at the Great American Bash underscored the other side of the high-level athlete. These people have spent every waking hour of their lives in the pursuit of achievement. They train relentlessly. They sacrifice their social lives to this end, and many are pushed into it by their guardians from a frighteningly young age.

The byproduct of this is a Gable Steveson: a man so utterly tedious and devoid of personality that, were you ever trapped in conversation with him, you'd pinch your thigh through your pocket just to feel anything other than the searingly intense feeling of wanderlust into literally any other room on the planet.

Steveson was both piss-poor investment and, potentially, a bad omen of the type of person WWE is almost exclusively scouting. The Creeds are great, but most precocious athletes are Michael Owen.

Gable Steveson can throw a suplex, but he was an amateur wrestler: that's like praising a baker for their ability to knead dough.
