10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About Becky Lynch

2. There Were Reports WWE Hated Her Accent

Shortly after she became the first ever SmackDown Women's Champion in 2016, reports began to surface that WWE production supremo Kevin Dunn hated Becky's voice.

You read that correctly. The Wrestling Observer reported in September/October of that year that Dunn wasn't fond of Lynch's Irish accent and didn't think it worked well in promos. That must be why she hardly got to talk even though she was supposed to be SmackDown's female focal point.

When she did, Bex' lines were kept short. If these reports were true and Dunn didn't think Lynch had a great speaking voice, then he's since been proven wrong. Her interviews have become a highlight of WWE programming, and her unique inflections help promos stand out from the rest of the roster on TV as well.

Surely uniqueness should be celebrated rather than castigated in a company that's viewed worldwide. It seems that's the case now, but it wasn't several years ago when Becky struggled as champ.
