10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About Bill Demott

8. Exposed By Joey Ryan

There have been many stories about DeMott's developmental misdeeds but former TNA star and indie regular Joey Ryan was one of the first to come forward and speak out about DeMott's training. Ryan attended a WWE Performance Centre tryout camp in Autumn 2013, a few months after his TNA release. The well-traveled wrestler did not have many kind words to say about Mr. DeMott. Among the accusations that Ryan levelled against the NXT trainer were that Demott talked down Bryan's pre-WWE international accomplishments and accredited his WWE success to the company, not Bryan (he claimed that they had to 're-train' him). Continuing in the same vein, DeMott apparently told the group that nobody on the indies is as good as the NXT crew. Interesting, that, since WWE have continued to court and sign the best independent wrestling talent in the world, from Finn 'Prince Devitt' Bálor to Hideo 'KENTA' Itami to Kevin 'Steen' Owens. Another quote that Ryan attributed to DeMott was 'Don't wrestle the way John Cena does - wrestle the way that I tell you to'. While Cena's wrestling, erm, style might not be to everyone's taste, he is the biggest star of the last decade and somebody that developmental talents could obviously learn from. Prior to the NXT: Fatal Four Way special on September 11th, 2014 Ryan tweeted 'Why doesn't Triple H ever take selfies with the guys Bill DeMott trained?'. Ryan clearly still holds a grudge against DeMott.
