10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About Billy Gunn
4. He Was Fired In 2004 After He Passed Out In An Airport
In some ways, Billy Gunn's November 2004 release was a surprise. He had been an employee for a decade, made Vince and the company a lot of money as a member of DX and the New Age Outlaws and there always seemed to be attempts to elevate him into a singles star. It seemed there would always be a place for Gunn on the roster. However, by mid-2004, Gunn (along with Hardcore Holly) were audibly and openly complaining about taking a backseat to and having to put over the likes of Kenzo Suzuki, Mordecai and Heidenreich. The two veterans formed a tag team but didn't get much of a push and were p***ed off about it. Billy probably realised that his days in the company were numbered and began showing up at TNA tapings enquiring about whether or not there was a place there for him (there was). WWE officials were not impressed with that but the straw that broke the camel's back was when Billy Gunn passed out at an airport while under the influence of drugs. The company first demanded he go to rehab but then decided to cut their losses and release him.
