10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About Cody Rhodes

1. The Rubber Chicken

A lighter one to finish things off, as while Cody Rhodes couldn't finish the story at WrestleMania 39, a rubber chicken seemingly could.

History will decide whether or not Rhodes falling to Roman Reigns at the end event was the right call. In the moment, it felt like WWE had flubbed the opportunity to create an all-time-great WrestleMania moment. That Cody could get hotter than he was on the Road to WM39 was inconceivable and although WWE's business has remained strong since the event, the long-running Bloodline saga's continued diversions through increasingly repetitive, played-out material has made it feel more like a time-killer than must-see television.

But the rubber chicken had its moment in Hollywood. Inexplicably making its way into the ring as Rhodes rolled around in defeat, it was present for several shots, trivialising what should have been an agonising setback for 'The American Nightmare.'

That the chicken immediately became a meme allowed for some light-hearted respite amongst heated online debate over whether or not WWE had screwed up with Rhodes, Reigns, and 'Mania 39. Cody even used it to poke fun at himself on Raw a week later, asking:

"You wanna know what's more embarrassing than laying there surrounded by 80,000 people with a rubber chicken a foot away from your head and not the two titles that you came to get?"

Nonetheless, maybe after he beats Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 40, becomes Universal Champion, and rules the world, Rhodes can settle his beef with the rubber clucker once and for all.
