10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About Dusty Rhodes
4. Encouraged NXT Students To Go 'Off Script' With Promos
Most recently, Dusty was spending some time down at the WWE Performance Center, imparting his valuable treasure trove of knowledge onto the young men and women who are one day hoping to have even a sliver of the success he has had during his legendary career. Before that role, Rhodes fulfilled the obligations of his WWE Legends contract, making special appearances and showing up every now and then to help out when needed. Laying the foundations for NXT, Rhodes was the head writer for the developmental brand for a period, and apparently encouraged his young stars to add a portion of themselves into their characters and promos, going off-script and giving them a realistic vibe and believability. That's obviously not something WWE encourage nowadays, as wrestlers are routinely required to memorise a ton of lines in preparation for their speaking parts on television. It's been all the rage to argue against this trend in recent years, and Dusty Rhodes was an advocate for speaking from the heart.
