10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About Eddie Guerrero

1. WWE's Portrayal Of Him Was Slightly Racist

There's no getting around this one: Eddie Guerrero's WWE character was at best incredibly stereotypical and, at worst, slightly racist. The lying, cheating and stealing Mexican, who did't get his GED until he was in his 30s, could be considered offensive. When Eddie Guerrero came back to WWE in April 2002, he was a leaner, meaner Eddie Guerrero. Out were the 'Mamacitas', the phony accent and the other poor stereotypes. With nephew Chavo, they were a couple of no-nonsense ass-kickers. The comedy was kept to a minimum. Slowly, however, the stereotypes began to creep back in. Eddie objected to the Los Guerreros Lie, Cheat and Steal vignettes that played on WWE TV in late 2002/2003, but there was nothing he could do: this is how WWE wanted to portray the team. Then Eddie began entering the ring to a lowrider and had several feuds with racist overtones. John Cena did some freestyles at Guerrero in 2003 which included the mandatory references to chihuahuas, burritos and tacos, while JBL made some very unsavoury comments about Mexican people during his dispute with Latino Heat. It seems that with Guerrero, WWE just couldn't let his talent and his wrestling do the talking for him. They just had to go in the wrong direction, something which, in 2015, they won't want you to remember.
