10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About Goldberg

Generally speaking, Vince McMahon doesn't like the thought of wrestlers created elsewhere dominating his product. That proved to be a problem when McMahon was interested in booking something millions of wrestling fans around the globe had wanted to see for years. In March, 2001, he bought over WCW, thus holding the keys to the promised land, a WWF vs. WCW feud.

It's been said that this should have been a license for McMahon to print money, but he was unwilling to feature WCW stars as being on the same level as their WWF counterparts. In addition, the WWF didn't want to pay out mega bucks to ensure the likes of Ric Flair, Sting and Bill Goldberg. Truthfully, many of these men were content to sit at home and collect on guaranteed contracts with AOL/Time Warner anyway, but what a difference they would have made.

One match between Steve Austin and Goldberg would have produced monster business for the company. Fans were tripping over one another to pay money to see the 'Invasion' work, but the feud ended up delivering little. It's unlikely Goldberg would have agreed to a buyout of his money-for-nothing WCW deal, but it can't be denied that he would have helped the 'Invasion'.
