10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About Hell In A Cell

1. Undertaker And Big Boss Man Put On The Worst Cell Match Ever

WWE superstars can talk about killing one another all they like, and nobody bats an eyelid. But when one wrestler then actually attempts to commit a murder in storyline, fans usually react negatively; it's one extreme too far, and a step our suspension of disbelief can't usually withstand. It explains why angles such as Undertaker's cement-burial of Paul Bearer and Jesus' stabbing of John Cena are remembered in a tainted fashion. WrestleMania 15 saw one of the most infamous match finishes in WWE history, as Undertaker celebrated his win over the Big Boss Man by hanging him from the ceiling of the Cell. The whole thing was rendered even more ridiculous as the segment ended, and (despite witnessing an attempted murder) JR simply brushed off the incident and began to hype the ensuing main event. On the broadcast, Boss Man was cut down during the airing of a video package; those watching at home were simply left to presume that he'd been killed off, and forget about it in time for Austin vs Rock. As poorly thought out as the match finish was, it often hides the fact that the bout itself was equally terrible. Commonly regarded as the worst Hell in a Cell match ever, it is the wrestling equivalent of two icebergs slowly colliding over hundreds of years. In other words, not very exciting. It'll always be remembered for the shocking nature of its conclusion, but coupled with the terrible action beforehand, it becomes worst Hell in a Cell moment in the history of the stipulation.
