10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About Jeff Hardy

9. Hardy Turned Down Rehab Before

Lightning has struck again.

Back in April 2003, WWE released Jeff from his contract and shocked the entire wrestling world by doing so. Hardy seemed a shoe-in to rise up the card as a singles act, and it's not like his popularity has ever waned with the hardcore audience. Maybe not, but his relationship with key figures behind the scenes has.

Jim Ross has spoken about this in passing on his podcast. Never one to simply throw talents under the bus, JR said that Jeff left WWE with no choice; he refused rehab, and that was akin to a slap in the face when Vince McMahon was only trying to help the man cope with his personal demons.

Now, in 2021, reports suggest that Jeff has knocked back a similar offer from WWE. The 44 year old didn't want to attend rehab sessions for substance abuse, and that (again) forced WWE's hand. The fact this has happened twice is something they'll want to gloss over.
