He was a frustrated bunny anyway.

Following a 'Falls Count Anywhere' loss to old partner The Miz on the 28 November 2011 Raw, Morrison left WWE. Word on the street was that both parties had been unable to come to terms on a contract extension, and so his latest deal ticked down. After that, he was free to go. That doesn't tell the full story.

In 2015, Morrison appeared on Steve Austin's podcast and admitted that he was creatively frustrated at the time with how things were going in WWE. He "wanted more control over his time", wasn't enjoying the rough schedule and turned down the offer of a new three-year contract to stay.

In other words, WWE wanted to keep Morrison but couldn't convince him to stick around. He left on his own terms, wanted to do other things, heal up some nagging injuries and cool off from the relentless, machine-like grind of company life.
