10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About Kurt Angle

1. His Many, Many Arrests

While Kurt Angle's myriad legal problems didn't start unfolding until long after he'd left WWE, they present a man whose private life has, at times, been completely at odds with the company's family-friendly ethos.

It started in September 2007, when Angle was arrested for driving under the influence. He was cleared of the charges one year later, but was hit with another DUI in March 2011, then again six months later. Kurt was found guilty on both occasions, paying a $250 fine for the first, and spending a night in jail for the second, before posting a $2,000 bail.

A final DUI charge came in August 2013, prompting Kurt to enter a rehabilitation centre that same day.

Aside from motoring offences, August 2009 saw Angle's then-girlfriend file a protection from abuse order against the Olympian, accusing him of stalking her. The charges were dropped when Kurt and his former partner reached an agreement to avoid further contact with each other, but for many fans, their existence is damning enough.

Angle has atoned for his sins, but while WWE have never been shy of lionising those with questionable backgrounds (see: Warrior, Ultimate), he clearly isn't the wholesome do-gooder they make him out to be.
