10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About Matt Bloom

2. The Original Idea For His Debut

Although Prince Albert the tattooist might not have been the best gimmick in the world but it certainly matched Bloom's personality and interests. The original idea for his debut could have been a career-killer. Bloom was originally going be introduced as the son of George 'The Animal' Steele, the turnbuckle-eating, green tongued simpleton from the 1980s. This storyline was Steele's idea, probably as a way to get him back onto WWF TV. He goes into great detail about the proposed story line in his autobiography. Steele had crossed paths with Bloom on the independent circuit and felt he would be perfect for the role thanks to his big, bald head and body hair. The idea was that Bloom would play Steele's bastard son, who hated his father for 'abandoning' him while simultaneously loving him because he was a wrestler on TV and wanted to follow in his footsteps. According to Steele's book, Bloom, Vince McMahon and Jim Ross were all on board but the idea fell through. Bloom dodged a bullet there, although it would take some time for him to truly find his feet in the WWE.
