10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About Randy Orton

9. Getting Booted From The Marines Cost Him A Role In The Marine

WWE launched their movie division in the hopes that they could take their wrestlers, put them in a bunch of straight to DVD movies and make them feel like bigger stars. Unsurprisingly, that plan has never, ever worked. However, the talent still usually enjoys being in those films, because it can help them land acting gigs in their post-wrestling careers, and it gives them time off from taking bumps on a nightly basis.

In 2012, Orton was set to star in The Marine 3. He’d be taking over the franchise from John Cena and Ted DiBiase. While Orton’s star power was an upgrade over Ted's, the controversy surrounding him made the casting a pretty insane decision from a PR perspective.

Years earlier, Orton was an actual Marine. It didn't go well. He spent time in a military prison and went AWOL for a few months. He was eventually dishonorably discharged. So when news of him landing the role broke out, the Marine Corps strongly disapproved and he was quickly booted from the role. That vehicle later landed in the lap of The Miz.

Orton did land roles in The Condemned 2 and 12 Rounds 2, but he was likely the absolute worse choice on the entire roster to cast as a marine.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
