10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About Randy Orton

2. A Fan Once Gave Him A Low Blow

If you run inside of a wrestling ring while a show is going on, you pretty much deserve whatever is coming to you. Wrestlers have no idea if they’re in danger when a stranger steps through the ropes, and historically they often beat the crap out of people who try to interfere with their job.

Usually, though, when somebody comes in the ring, they just want their 15 seconds of fame or to be near their favorite wrestler. Not so when WWE went to South Africa in 2013. After Orton’s match he ascended the ropes to pose for the crowd, and a fan snuck into the ring and gave him a low blow. Orton lost his balance and fell to the ground. It was a pretty shocking moment and some questioned whether it was an angle. He quickly got back to his feet and began walking over to the man who did it, but security grabbed him before The Viper could beat the living hell out of the guy.

The man who attacked Orton was local indy wrestler The Blacksmith. It looks like he was trying to make a name for himself. When asked by a South African news site why he did it, he responded “I just don’t like Randy Orton, this was an opportunity for me so I got up there and made a name for myself.”

Huh. If I hadn't just said his wrestling name, would you have known who did it?

This is one instance where you really can’t blame Orton for losing his temper.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
