10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About Shane McMahon

5. He Was Nearly Seriously Injured At King Of The Ring 2001 Due To Somebody Forgetting Sugar Glass

WWE doesn't necessarily want you to forget about his amazing match with Kurt Angle at King of the Ring 2001. It was a great Street Fight that showed Shane could hang in the ring with one of the best wrestlers alive. However, somebody made a mistake with the glass where they had planned some big spots. https://twitter.com/realkurtangle/status/596430959181955072 What's sugar glass? Here's a definition: "It's a brittle transparent form of sugar used to simulate glass in movies, photographs and plays. It is much less likely to cause injuries than real glass, and it easily breaks convincingly, making it an excellent choice for stunts." In other words, it's perfect for pro wrestling. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HB4qOI7xxn0 During the match, Kurt gave Shane a belly to belly suplex into the glass thinking it would break. It didn't and Shane landed right on his head. They did the spot again and it broke like it was supposed to. When they went inside the structure to break more glass, Kurt suplexed Shane again and it led to Shane landing on his head again. The spot was repeated again. Then Kurt realized it wasn't going to break, so Kurt just threw him through it as a bloody Shane looked out of it. In interviews talking about their famous bout, Angle said both guys were in the hospital after that match. Angle actually worked three matches at that show since he faced Edge and Christian in King of the Ring matches earlier in the night. It was a great match that should be remembered for their tremendous effort, but somebody messed up the props that night. As a result, this isn't a match that PG WWE would want fans to remember too fondly.
