10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About The TLC PPV
6. John Cena Versus Wade Barrett In a Chairs Match Headlines (TLC 2010)
2010 may very well go down in history as the year when WWE's inability to produce new stars to replace the old ones really started to damage the company's bottom line. Shawn Michaels, Triple H, and The Undertaker all finished their full-time careers in 2010, and the talent that was elevated in their wake (namely, Sheamus and The Miz) didn't exactly catch on as had been hoped. Perhaps no missed opportunity of that year was as glaring as Wade Barrett. A great talker and a natural heel, Barrett looked to be ushering in a new era for WWE when he formed the Nexus stable. Unfortunately, The Nexus were squashed by WWE's stars at SummerSlam, Barrett was unable to capture the WWE Title during his subsequent feud with Randy Orton. He then transitioned into a feud with John Cena, who had first been forced to join The Nexus, then "fired" by Barrett. The blowoff between the two was at TLC, where they met in a chairs match (headlining over The Miz's first WWE Title defense and Edge's World Heavyweight Championship victory). To the surprise of nobody, Cena won, and then buried Barrett under a pile of chairs. Needless to say, Barrett wouldn't be in any more main events after that.
