10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About The TLC PPV

5. CM Punk Versus The Shield (TLC 2013)

The curiously-booked TLC 2013 PPV featured not one, but two three-on-one handicap matches. In the penultimate match of the evening, The Wyatt Family soundly beat Daniel Bryan. More perplexing, though, was that in the opener CM Punk single-handedly defeated The Shield. As the bout was meant to cause a Shield split (which ended up being postponed), the team suffered from miscommunication that ended up costing them the match - Roman Reigns, suffering from impaired eyesight after hitting the announcers' table, accidentally Speared Dean Ambrose, whom Punk then pinned. Still, it made little sense that the most feared three-man unit in company history had failed to take out a single opponent, and showed that the group were not as bulletproof as they had been one year prior. The match became even more embarrassing after CM Punk divulged details about it during his infamous appearance on Colt Cabana's The Art of Wrestling podcast. According to him, company higher-ups wanted to protect Roman Reigns and continuously told Punk to make him look particularly strong. Punk then simply wondered why, if Reigns to was be kept strong, was he put on the losing end of the handicap match. It's a good question for which there is no clear answer.
