10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About The Undertaker
6. He Had A Worked Shoot Promo
A couple years before Taker’s American Badass gimmick, (which WWE also largely wants you to forget), he emerged in the middle of the ring on Raw one night in 1998 simply wearing a black pair of sweatpants and a sweatshirt. It was a very casual workday for The Deadman.
He took to the ring, and instead of threatening to eat souls, bury things and force people to rest in peace, he complained that his title reigns were short, because Vince McMahon didn’t want someone like him as the champion. What the f**k? He then alluded to other stars leaving for WCW, thinking “his time would come” and topped it off with a jab at Shawn Michaels by saying that he never “lost his smile.”
However, he also said that Vince made him fight his own brother, which was storyline nonsense. So why bother mixing story and real life? Things somehow got even weirder as Vince came out and insinuated Taker’s mom was a w***e.
This worked shoot had Vince Russo’s fingerprints all over it. It’s just interesting that Taker agreed to have any part of it. Considering that he never again wore an all sweatpants outfit on-air (though he does occasionally put on some nice golf attire in his free time), it’s pretty safe that WWE would definitely like you to forget about this segment.
