10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About The Undertaker
5. He Once Died And Went To Heaven...Or Something
The year 1994 was a terrible one for WWE, and one of the lowest points of that crummy year was the Royal Rumble. While the show is usually a blast, that Rumble was a celebration to mediocrity and sadness. The entire event highlighted the show's lack of star power, and the championship match was as if death itself came to life, and then died in front of us.
Taker took on Yokozuna in an incredibly slow, plodding casket match that kept dragging on and on. No one was going to do a clean job in that one, and since The Dead Man had been booked so incredibly indestructible, it took nearly every heel on the roster working together to put him in the casket and shut it.
As they began to wheel him away, the video screen suddenly turned on with footage of Taker inside of it. Bit of an odd place to set a camera. Well, he spoke a bunch of his silly ghost nonsense before ending with “I will not rest in peace.” Cheesy lightning sound effects played, and then the video casket mysteriously exploded (though not the physical one in the arena). A hologram of Taker appeared, and it suddenly began raising off the screen and into the netherworld...or to a Wendy's. Who knows?
That match was an emotional moment for us all. Either you were a kid and believed he’d actually died, or you were an adult and were emotionally unstable after realizing you’d just spent money to watch it.
