10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About Wade Barrett
7. Dodgy New York Accent In Dead Man Down
As is customary of today's WWE stars, Wade is also a credited actor, having made his feature film debut in WWE Studios' positively rotten 2013 crime thriller Dead Man Down. In the film, Barrett plays bodyguard Kilroy, who has very few lines. The few lines he does have are spoken in a decidedly dodgy New York accent... It's not a terrible attempt, let's make that clear right off the bat. Wade even had lessons with a dialect coach (along with Colin Farell) in order to hone it as much as he could. But it's just strange watching Wade, with his thick Lancashire accent, trying to do Manhattan mobster. It never seems completely natural and the voice doesn't quite match with the face on screen. Perhaps part of the problem is that Wade listened to Bruce Springsteen tapes in his spare time in order to really nail the dialect. Wade, mate, The Boss is from New JERSEY, not New York. Adding insult to injury, the film was a box-office bomb and was slaughtered by some critics.
