4. SmackDown Will Be The “A” Show
Since 1999, SmackDown has served as a supplemental show to Raw. Essentially created to compete with WCW's Thunder, it was never designed to be the main show of the company. In fact, it was even originally slated to be a full two hours of WWF Divas in an era filled with bra and panties matches. Thankfully, we have instead been treated to 20 years of legitimately solid additional program to Monday nights.
But on 4 October, the tables will turn. And not in a Ronda Rousey horror movie or Dudley Boyz reunion sort of way either. With the pressure of two hundred and five MILLION dollars at stake (Dr. Evil pinkies up, folks), WWE will be forced to put a lot of the attention on the blue brand for at least the foreseeable future.
With WWE Backstage, the FOX debut, WWE Draft, and now competition from AEW, Vince's company certainly has their hands full. And there may be very little room left for them to devote "A-Show" level resources to Raw going forward. This has already been seen in the previously mentioned announce teams, and will likely play out even further with the Draft.
And with NXT going head to head with the competition every Wednesday, Raw may even end up being relegated to third place. At least it isn't 205 Live or WWECW, right? Look at the bright side: even if Raw's quality dips at least we can look forward to...
