10 Things You Didn't Know About Conor McGregor
1. Dana White Had Never Seen Him Fight When He Was Signed To The UFC
When Dana White signed Conor McGregor to the UFC, he had never even seen the man fight!
In fact, McGregor pretty much wasn't on White's radar, though the Irish fighter had conquered two belts in the Cage Warriors promotions. Fight fans, however, began hounding the UFC President to sign the entertaining fighter. He was in Ireland at the time to accept an award from Trinity College in Dublin.
Popular opinion of the fighter swayed White. He wound up flying McGregor out to Vegas for a meeting, and signed him shortly afterwards. Speaking to Esquire later, he referred to McGregor as a "penny stock" that worked out beyond his wildest dreams.
No kidding. McGregor is now the UFC's biggest star, first ever simultaneous two-weight champion, and a cross-over success story who has helped make 2016 the biggest year ever for the MMA promotion.
Not bad for a penny stock. Not bad at all!
