10 Things You Didn't Know About Conor McGregor
2. He May Beat Flyod Mayweather's Record Of 4.5 Million PPVs Sold In A Year
Here's an interesting little fact few have considered: Floyd Mayweather holds the record for PPVs sold in a year at 4.5 million. However, Conor McGregor is coming off a huge 2016 that may actually see him smash the record.
Now, we won't know for sure until the final sales figures are in from UFC 205, and even then, it'll be a bit of a question, because the UFC doesn't officially release PPV numbers. That said, McGregor's other fights this calendar year were UFC 196 and UFC 202, which are believed to have totalled about 1.5 and 1.6 million buys respectively. So that puts him just over three million. UFC 205 was figured to beat both of those, and could easily hit the 2 million buy rate (which would be a first in UFC history).
If that does turn out to be the case, McGregor will hold the title, though there'll be a little footnote in that it took him an extra event to do it.
