10 Things You Didn’t Know About Conor McGregor
4. McGregor Supports Same-Sex Marriage
McGregor is known for being a very outspoken individual. Of course, most of what he says publicly centers around promoting himself and his brand.
However, in 2015, prior to his bout with Jose Aldo, the Irishman took to social media to show his support for a referendum that would make same-sex marriage legal in his home country.
It was his head coach John Kavanaugh, who strongly supported the referendum, that first brought the issue to his attention. In fact, McGregor's entire team, SBG-Ireland. decided to publicly show their support for same-sex unions.
On 22 May 2015, the referendum passed, and would eventually be signed into law.
Unfortunately, for McGregor, his reputation as a hero in the gay community took a bit of hit when he was caught on camera using a homophobic slur in 2017. He would later apologize for the remark.
