10 Things You Didn’t Know About Jim Ross
1. He Holds A Win Over The WWE Champion!
Though he’s never officially been known as a wrestler, JR still managed to appear in nine televised matches between 1999 and 2011. And while he’s
got a 0% pay-per-view success rate, he’s fared a little better on television, winning five of his seven matches and only losing on one occasion, with another
result ending in a no contest.
But his greatest in-ring achievement is undeniably the fact that, technically, JR can boast a victory over the WWE Champion. Kind of.
The match in question came in 2011, and Alberto Del Rio was the victim, although there are certainly a number of asterisks to be mentioned alongside this one. First off, this was in fact a tag team bout; JR teamws with John Cena to take on the illustrious duo of Michael Cole and Del Rio. And admittedly, JR didn’t necessarily score the victory over Del Rio, per sé, as it was Cole that he forced to submit after busting out a fierce Ankle Lock.
Still, that doesn't change the fact that the history books state that one of Del Rio's few defeats during his WWE Title reign came in a match against Good Ol' JR.
Dubious in-ring wins aside, though, it’s the exemplary career at the commentary table that he’ll always be remembered for, and quite rightly so.
