As a wrestling announcer, I can’t imagine there are too many
awards that you’re eligible to win. However, the one such award that I’m aware
of is one that JR has pretty much made his own over the course of his
commentary career.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter does indeed have an award for the Best Television Announcer of the year, and it’s none too surprising that JR has claimed the accolade more than any other commentator in history.
In its 35-year run, JR has been named Best Television Announcer on no less than 14 occasions - a pretty awesome statistic. But for a bit more context, the next closest challenger to that haul is Mike Tenay with an admirable yet far inferior five wins to his name.
However, one blemish on JR’s record is that he’s also been the recipient of the WON’s Worst Feud of the Year award. That wasn’t necessarily his fault though; it came as a result of the McMahon Family vs. JR angle in 2005, and with the McMahon Family winning the award again the following year, I think it’s clear who the common denominator is there…
