10 Things You Didn’t Know About Kurt Angle
9. Turned Down WWE Once Before
Angle didn’t make the transition to professional wrestling
until October 1998, when he signed an eight-year deal with WWE. However, if
the company had gotten their way, he’d have been on their books a whole lot
sooner.
You may well be aware that in 1996, just a couple of months after his victory at the Olympics, Angle paid a visit to ECW after Shane Douglas had gotten in touch with him. However, what’s rather less known is that at that point, Angle had actually already turned down an offer from Vince's company.
Raven revealed all during an appearance on Talk is Jericho, speaking of how Angle “turned down a million-dollar deal with the WWE” shortly after winning his gold medal.
Further details are difficult to come by, but rumours persist suggesting that Angle was so averse to idea of pro wrestling that, in an act of defiance, he either tore or burned the contract to pieces.
Two years later, of course, he’d clearly had a change of heart.
