10 Things You Didn't Know About Balls Mahoney
7. He Almost Ruined Christmas
It is a great example of how utterly ridiculous professional wrestling can be that a guy called Balls Mahoney has a more preposterous gimmick in his past. After impressing in Smokey Mountain Wrestling both in the ring and out of it, Rechner was signed by the WWF in 1995 and would soon make his debut.
Let's just be clear about one thing; in 1995, WWF was in a bad way. The company was losing stars to WCW at an alarming rate, and it was stuck in the overly cartoon-ish ways of the past. Many wrestlers came along with occupational gimmicks, meaning it wasn't unusual to see a wrestling garbage man take on a wrestling plumber.
Rechner's gimmick could arguably be put in the 'occupational' box, but it truly belongs in the 'absolutely insane' category. He was introduced to the WWF at 'In Your House 5: Season's Beatings' by none other than the 'Million Dollar Man' Ted DiBiase. As we know, DiBiase often proclaimed that everybody had a price, and this was true even the most pure of characters.
Yes, Rechner was introduced as Xanta Klaus, Santa's evil brother from the South Pole who steals presents. Wrestling gold I tell you! Understandably the gimmick lasted for less than the length of time it takes to open your Christmas presents, competing in one single match.
Still, this was a victory over Scott Taylor (Scotty 2 Hotty) of all people, so Xanta Klaus can say he has a 100% record in WWF.
