10 Things You Didn't Know About Bash At The Beach

6. Champion's Advantage

BASH AT THE BEACH FACTS

If you were a WCW champion set to defend your title at Bash At The Beach, then luck was on your side.

Out of the 26 title bouts held at the event, the championship only changed hands on eight occasions. However, only six are officially recognised, seeing as Hulk Hogan winning the World Heavyweight Championship in 2000 and Rey Misterio Jr. winning the Cruiserweight Championship in 1998 ended in such controversy that the titles were returned to Jeff Jarrett and Chris Jericho respectively.

Of the championships that were on the line at the July show, the World Heavyweight Championship changed hands three times (Hulk Hogan in 1994, Randy Savage in 1999, and Booker T in 2000), the United States Heavyweight Championship once (Ric Flair in 1996), and the World Tag Team Championships twice (Pretty Wonderful in 1994 and KroniK in 2000). The US title was also declared vacant at the 2000 event, following Scott Steiner using his Steiner Recliner submission hold, which had been banned.

As a result, excluding the two title switches that were deemed null and void and the US title being vacated, the champions at Bash At The Beach had a 76.92% chance of leaving the show with their title intact. Bash At The Beach had the true champion's advantage when it came to pay-per-view defences.
