10 Things You Didn't Know About Bash At The Beach
4. When Wrestling Gets Real
The 2000 Bash At The Beach was the final event held under the name. When you see what happened on the show, you probably understand why WCW wasn't around much longer.
Hulk Hogan lifted the World Heavyweight Championship for the sixth time in his career, defeating Jeff Jarrett, but that was only because Vince Russo had booked 'The King of the Mountain' to lie flat on the mat for Hogan. Hogan had used the creative control portion of his contract to refuse to lose the match to 'Double J'.
The man behind Hulkamania then cut a worked shoot on WCW, stating that things such as this were why the company was in the state it was at that point. It didn't end there however: Russo went on to cut an unplanned promo on Hogan, making several disparaging remarks before 'firing' him.
A shocked Hogan, totally unaware of this part of the plan, refused to return to the company following Russo's comments, and subsequently filed a lawsuit. 'The Hulkster' claimed he was double-crossed by the executives as they didn't want to pay him anymore, while Eric Bischoff states the angle was supposed to result in Hogan returning at Halloween Havoc with the title still around his waist.
The tagline for this show was 'It Ain't No Picnic'. How appropriate.
