10 Things You Didn't Know About Beyond The Mat

8. How It Affected DDP's Own Documentary

Almost 15 years on from his miserable involvement in 'Beyond The Mat', Diamond Dallas Page produced an altogether more inspiring doc on Roberts. 'The Resurrection Of Jake the Snake' had critics purring, fans sobbing and everyone swept up in waves of nostalgia for Jake's career.

It almost never happened, and not for reasons you might think.

Roberts told Joe Rogan in 2018 that he hesitated when Page broached the subject of documenting his rise from crippled drug addict to independent success story. He couldn't shake the feeling of betrayal from 'Beyond The Mat', and worried that he was opening himself up for more ridicule and shame.

He was so concerned about being burned by the cameras again that Jake told DDP it wasn't happening. Eventually, Page eased his friend's fears by telling him he'd have complete control over everything, including what was in the final cut.
