10 Things You Didn't Know About Brian Christopher

6. He Advised The Rock To Watch Austin Idol Promos

There are going to be a lot of people reading this who don't know who Austin Idol is.

A veteran of the territory days during the 1970s and '80s, Idol worked for Jerry Lawler's Memphis-based promotion as a heel when Brian Christopher was just a kid watching from the bleachers. His self-assured promos, fine clothes and general bluster caught Brian's attention.

That's why, when he was looking for something to help take The Rock's career to the next level, Christopher recommended that his buddy seek out Idol's interviews. Impressed, Rocky decided to put his own spin on things, but kept Idol's habit of referring to himself in third person.

Armed with that advice (and better-known guidance from Jim Ross suggesting the same self-referential style), The Rock turned himself from meandering babyface to blowhard, arrogant heel. Not many people will know about the part Brian Christopher played in that change.
