10 Things You Didn't Know About Brodie Lee

1. A Family Man

Brodie Lee's career will always be linked to family. Whether it is the Wyatt Family or the Dark Order, Lee's mainstream professional wrestling career was built around colleagues and companions, be they hirsute swamp people or a ragtag group of misfits united by a common fear of being hit by papers. Those family relationships were always somewhat fractured and unbalanced, but that's what made them such compelling viewing.

Brodie Lee was a family man on-screen, but his gimmick personality couldn't hand a candle to the family man that fans didn't see. There is a reason why so many of his tributes made mention of his love for his family, for his wife Amanda and children Brodie and Nolan. Brodie made no secret of his commitment to his family and he lived that.

Much has been written about Brodie Lee's love and dedication to his family, but it remains something that all wrestling fans will know but never truly understand. The reports of his son defeating Kenny Omega for the AEW World Championship in a post-Dynamite dark segment are thus equal parts heartbreaking and heartwarming. Even to the end, it was family first.

The wrestling world is no stranger to tragedy and grief, but this one hits a little harder than most. This was a performer in his prime but with levels to move through, an underappreciated wrestler finally spreading his wings. A family man who was finally getting the attention that he deserved. It's a harsh world, and Brodie Lee's departure makes it that much cruel.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
