10 Things You Didn't Know About Brodie Lee
9. He Was A Big Hockey Fan
Believe it or not, but Brodie Lee wasn't born as a terrifying hoss. Before the beard and the brawling came a quiet young man from Rochester, all awkward limbs and hopes and dreams. Born Jon Huber, Brodie went to an all-male Jesuit school called McQuaid in Rochester, the city's only all-boys Catholic school. Other notable alumni include multi-platinum singer John the Blind and former New York Islanders centre and development coach Marty Reasoner.
Sticking with the ice hockey theme, Lee actually donned the skates and spent a few years smashing pucks and hitting fools on the ice, playing in a number of independent leagues around the area. His love for the game is well-documented (he was a Toronto Maple Leafs fan), and he has said in interviews that Twitter's coverage of hockey is one of the main reasons he used the network.
Lee spent many a youthful occasion at the Blue Cross Arena in Rochester, cheering on the Rochester Americans in the AHL, although he experienced less success in the arena himself. While wrestling for WWE as Luke Harper, Brodie went 2-4 in the arena.
Brodie was built for hockey but it was lacrosse that really caught his eye. Well, I say 'caught his eye', he was actually turned onto the sport by friends. The prospect of being able to hit dudes with a massive stick was obviously very appealing.
