10 Things You Didn't Know About Cody Rhodes

10. He Started Out As A Referee

It's common knowledge that Cody Rhodes used to occasionally travel with his father, 'The American Dream' Dusty Rhodes. According to Cody, this happened more so during the mid-1990s. By that point, Dusty was working for WCW, but wasn't wrestling quite as much as he used to. Therefore, it was likely easier to take his son out on the road with him. In the year 2000, Dusty started Turnbuckle Championship Wrestling. The company ran until 2003, and it was where a young Cody first cut his teeth in the industry. Instead of starting there as a wrestler, he performed the role of referee. A teenager, Cody refereed matches involving the likes of Barry Windham and Steve Corino. Incredibly, he hadn't even decided to start training yet. A good Amateur wrestler, Cody was simply helping his dad out and earning a little extra money on the side. It's not uncommon for wrestlers to fulfill other roles in wrestling before actually working matches, but it's strange to think of a current WWE Superstar as a lowly referee. TCW may have only lasted a few years, but it was likely a vital experience for Cody.
