10 Things You Didn't Know About Doug Williams

1. TNA Stripped Him Of The X Division Title Due To A Volcanic Ash Cloud

During a previous entry, Doug's two TNA X Division Title reigns were detailed. The first would perhaps have lasted much longer than 89 days, had it not been for one newsworthy incident that stopped Doug from flying back to the United States as planned. As a result for his cancelled flight, he was stripped of the gold by the company.

Before April 18, 2010, Williams was scheduled to fly back to the USA from the UK. For over a week, he was stranded back home however, due to a volcanic eruption that had happened in Iceland. The resultant ash cloud played havoc with international flights from Europe.

On that date in April, Williams had been booked to wrestle Shannon Moore and Frankie Kazarian at TNA's LockDown pay-per-view. Doug was replaced by Homicide in the match, which was won by Kazarian.

Once he had returned back in the States, Williams was written to win the belt back, hence his later 113 day stint as champion. There's a distinct possibility his title run would have been uninterrupted had it not been for the volcano.
