10 Things You Didn't Know About Goldberg
8. Chad Fortune Defeated Bill Gold
If you don't remember Chad Fortune, odds are you aren't the only one. A former NFL player in his own right, Fortune got into pro wrestling in 1994. He briefly competed in WWE as "Travis," one half of Tekno Team 2000, then in 1997, he joined WCW. After a couple of years in the organization (teaming with Dale 'The Demon' Torborg as The Pit Crew), he was released. In 2000, he took up monster truck driving, which he still does to this day.
Fortune is relevant because he - not Kevin Nash - was actually the first man to defeat Goldberg. Before Goldberg ever debuted on TV, he had a series of house show and dark matches under the you-can-probably-guess-what-they-were-going-for name of "Bill Gold." He defeated men like Buddy Lee Parker, Buddy Landell, and Chip Minton, but in his last match before debuting, he suffered a loss to Fortune.
Thankfully for Goldberg, the Internet wasn't as all-encompassing back then as it is today, and nobody knew he had lost a match.
