10 Things You Didn't Know About Goldberg

7. His Streak Lasted 155 Matches

Once Goldberg came onto WCW television, he amassed a winning streak that became the stuff of legend. He tore through all his opponents, winning every single match he was a part of and slowly but surely working his way up the card. On 20 April 1998, he won the United States Championship, and on July 6, he became the WCW World Heavyweight Champion.

During this time period, WCW began publicizing exactly how many matches Goldberg had won, prompting fans to count along - they'd even go online and look up house show results in order to get an accurate measure. Some would bring signs to events that kept track of the streak.

WCW ruined it with embellishment, fudging the numbers to make them sound marginally more impressive. Knowing that they could no longer find correct information (or if they did, it would just be contradicted by announcers), fans started to lose interest in measuring Goldberg's record carefully.

As for the real numbers, though, when Goldberg lost to Kevin Nash at Starrcade 1998, the announcers pushed that his streak had been ended at 173 wins. In actuality, he managed to rack up 155 straight victories without a loss.
