10 Things You Didn't Know About Goldberg
6. He Was In A Movie With Jean-Claude Van Damme
After losing the WCW World Heavyweight Title, Goldberg still remained the top star in the organization - in fact, he was soon called upon for his first role in a major motion picture. At Slamboree 1999, an attack from The Steiner Brothers was used as an excuse for Goldberg to head off and film Universal Soldier: The Return.
The film was a follow-up to 1992's Universal Solder, seeing action star Jean-Claude Van Damme reprise his role as Luc Deveraux. When an artificial intelligence named S.E.T.H. creates super-soldiers in order to protect itself (among them, Goldberg's "Romeo"), Van Damme must come to the rescue. The movie was a bomb, making $10 million back on a $45 million budget. It currently holds a 5% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Nevertheless, it was exposure for Goldberg during a period when WCW was starting to badly lose the ratings war. After a couple of months of filming, 'Da Man' returned to take on Rick Steiner.
